Roseanne M. (Landry) Quatrale
of Shirley, U.S. Coast Guard Vet; 92
SHIRLEY -- Roseanne M. (Landry) Quatrale, 92, formerly of Shirley, died Tuesday February 16, 2016, at the Apple Valley Center.
Her husband of 66 years, Thomas M. Quatrale, died in 2014.
Mrs. Quatrale was born on October 1, 1923 in a Shaker built home on the grounds of the Industrial School for Boys in Shirley, a daughter of the late Athanace and Lucy (Chaisson) Landry. She graduated from St. Anthony's School in 1937 and Ayer High School in 1941.
Following her graduation from High School she worked in the offices of George Frost Company, the Industrial School and at Ft. Devens in the Quartermaster Corps.
In 1945, Rose enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and trained and served in Brooklyn, NY until the end of the War. Following the War, she returned to the Shirley Industrial School where she subsequently met her future husband. Prior to her marriage, her wedding shower was held at the Old Shaker Meeting House in Shirley which was later moved to Hancock Shaker Village in Hancock, Massachusetts.
After raising her family, Rose returned to work first in the cafeteria at the Lura White School and more recently at the Shirley Hazen Memorial Library before retiring in 1993 at the age of 70.
Rose enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing and baking. She was also a member of the Shirley Golden Age Club.
She leaves four sons, Thomas M. Quatrale and his wife, Maggie of Derry, NH, James T. Quatrale and his wife, Cynthia of Sterling, Michael D. Quatrale and his wife, Joanne of Shirley and John P. Quatrale; a brother, Joseph Landry of Shirley; 6 grandchildren, Thomas, Ryan, Jason, Stephen, Ashley and Nicole; two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Ruby and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by four brother, Harold Landry, Robert Landry, Edward Landry and Frank Landry, and a sister, Beatrice Landry Briggs.
QUATRALE -- Her funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, February 23, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 14 Phoenix St., Shirley. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. A visitation period in the church will be held on Tuesday morning prior to the funeral Mass from 9:30 to 10 AM.
