He was born in Revere on March 21, 1921, the son of Albert G. and Florence (Copeland) Neal and had lived in Fitchburg since 1914. He was a 1929 graduate of Fitchburg High School, 1930 graduate of Cushing Academy, and had attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In 1926, Mr. Neal went to work for Fitchburg Gas and Electric Co. delivering circulars door to door and worked his way from being a stock boy, radio serviceman, refrigerator service man, electric lineman, foreman, superintendent and then executive assistant to the president, retiring in 1974.
He had been a member of Edison Electric Institute, American Gas Assoc., National Committee of Utilities Radio, Electric Council of New England, Utility Radio Assoc. of New England, New England Gas Assoc., New England Regional Utility Group, Fitchburg Chamber of Commerce, where he served on Legislative Committee, Fitchburg Boy Scout Council, where he served on Camp Committee, Fitchburg Industrial Development Commission, Fitchburg Rotary Club, where he had been Director, The Fay Club, Fitchburg Sportsmans Club, Fitchburg Rod and Gun Club, United Commercial Travelers of American, Tri City Council #823, Cooperator Worcester North Savings Institution and had been a Notary Public for 30 years. He was a member of Rollstone Congregational Church. He liked to hunt and fish.
Mr. Neal leaves one son, Albert G. Neal of Ashburnham; three grandchildren, Cynthia Rameau of Hubbardston, Stephen Neal and Sharon Neal both of Winchendon; and four great-grandchildren, Marissa, Daniel, Kaitlyn and Alexander; and nieces and nephews. His wife of 63 years, Emma (Whitney) Neal, died in 1998.
NEAL -- On June 2, Wallace C. “Wally” Neal, 93, of Fitchburg. Following cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg. There are no calling hours. Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home of Fitchburg, is assisting the family with arrangements.
