Robert Yuille Obituary

Yuille, Robert Gordon 2/9/1941 - 5/15/2022 Naples, FL Robert Gordon Yuille, 81, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2022 in Naples Florida. Robert (Bob) was born on February 9th, 1941 in Flint, Michigan, the eldest of four children. Growing up in Flint, he attended Central High School and eventually Michigan State with future wife, Sharon. Bob and Sharon were married in 1963 and shortly after answered Kennedy's call to join the Peace Corps. They lived and worked in the Philippines for two years and were the first in their families to see the world. Returning to Flint, he enrolled in law school and passed the bar on the same day as both his brothers to become a prosecuting attorney in Flint. While he was proud of being an attorney, his true calling was that of a collector. If you visited one of Bob's homes, you were captivated by the assemblage of antiques, fishing lures, records, mermaids, blue glass, bird feeders, antlers and wine corks. A fervent music lover, Bob always had music playing in the house and it was probably a rare 50s Doo-wop song of which only he knew the artist. Bob loved East Tawas, Michigan, the home of his childhood cottage. He spent every chance he could up at the cottage with Sharon and their only son, Rob. Bob's passions included fishing, birding, gardening, and of course sitting around the campfire listening to music. He eagerly retired in 1997 and enjoyed his winters in the quirky town of Goodland, Florida where the entrance sign clearly states, "A drinking village with a fishing problem". His summers were spent on Tawas Point overlooking Lake Huron. Bob lost Sharon to melanoma in October of 2001. Ten years later he married Marco Island native, Pat Hill who reminded him to "keep on kicking until you can't kick anymore." Robert left behind a son, Robert J. Yuille of Chicago, who lives with wife, Mandy and four children, Braden, Garrett, Raisa, and Fletcher. Bob is also survived by wife, Pat Yuille(Hill) in Naples, Florida, a brother, Richard Yuille of Flint, MI and sister, Karolyn Willoughby of Las Vegas, NV. He was predeceased by wife, Sharon Kay Yuille, brother, James Yuille, and Parents Gordon and Ruth Yuille. In memory of Bob, we encourage all to go fishing and drink a beer. Donations can also be made in Bob's honor to the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps not only changed Bob and Sharon's life, but also the lives of the people they served. www.peacecorps.gov

My sincere condolences to the Yuille family. During his nearly 30 years in the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office, he became one of the most beloved attorneys, bosses, and friends. His wisdom and knowledge guided the men and women of that office during difficult times and cases. He was a mentor of mine and someone that influenced my career as a lawyer and public official. He taught us all how to deal with complex problems. He made an impact on the Flint community. He did so with grace, competence, and humor. The way he approached the most difficult decisions left an indelible mark on the lawyers and staff who worked with him. His kindness, wit, and steadiness were his hallmarks. May he rest in peace.

Bob was a mentor of mine. I worked under him in 1992-1993 and then moved to Charlevoix. I heeded his advice on many subjects throughout my 30+ year career as a lawyer and am saddened to see he has left us. He was the best. Funny, smart and principled. I am fortunate to have worked with him. I learned so much from him early on and I will never forget him or Jim.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bob. He was a great guy. He always brought a smile to my face, when I would see him. We worked together at the Genesee County Prosecutors office for a couple of years. We remained friends, throughout our legal careers. He and Sharon, accepted an Old English Sheepdog Puppy from me, from the many ones I had. May God Bless Bob and the family. I will keep Bob, Sharon, Jim, Rick and the entire family in my prayers.
