Albert Zimmerman Obituary

ALBERT ZIMMERMAN MELBOURNE VILLAGE Albert Franklin Zimmerman, 89, of Melbourne Village, died peacefully onThursday morning, September 11, 2008. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Franklin and Theresa (McKee) Zimmerman. In 1939 he graduated from Fort Schuyler Maritime College in New York. Bert proudly served his coun try as a Merchant Marine during the 2nd World War, enduring dangers in the Northern Atlantic as well as the South Pacific. After the war he worked as a marine engineer for Bethlehem Steel in New York until moving to Florida in 1963 to work at Pan American for 20 years until his retirement. He served the town of Mel bourne Village for over six years as Mayor and Town Superinten dent. He was active in commu nity theatre and was an avid woodcarver. He was a friend of Bill Ws for 24 years. In accord ance with his wishes, Bert made a physical donation to The Flori da Brain Bank. Bert was the devoted hus band of Marijane (Rawe) Zimmerman for 66 years and i s survived by her. He is also survived by his son, Lawrence (Debra) Zimmerman of Voor heesville, NY; two sisters, Gladys Caskey and Jeanann Cimino; and four grandchildren, Adam (Devin) Zimmerman of Los Angeles, Zachary Zimmer man of Brooklyn, NY, Sacha (Peter Scoblic) Zimmerman of Washington, DC and Shiloh Zimmerman of Voorheesville, NY. He was predeceased by two sons, Spencer and Christopher Zimmerman. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial in Berts honor on Saturday, September 20th, at 2:00 p.m., at Melbourne Village Hall. Donations in Berts memory are welcomed to be made to William Childs Hospice House, 381 Medplex Parkway, Palm Bay, Florida 32907.
