Brian Toland Obituary

BRIAN R. TOLAND MELBOURNE BEACH Brian R. Toland, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Born January 30, 1953 in Big Springs, TX he was a life-long Texas Long horns fan. Brian was a man for all seasons who had a passion for life and lived his dreams. He was a consummate wildlife ecologist and master falconer. He was a published author and photographer. His wildlife images were selected to adorn the lobby of Parrish Medical Center. After twenty-five years of government service protecting endangered species, Brian founded his own environmental consulting firm and later brought his wife in as a partner creating an enduring family business. Brian was a gifted guitarist who wrote and recorded his own music. Above all, Brian was a devoted father and husband who left an incredible legacy for his family. Surviving are his wife, Lisa; son Laif and daughters, Maya and Jada all of Melbourne; his mother Anne Ludeman; father Gordon Toland; and sisters Karen Toland and Marcia Crelli. A celebration of Brians life will be held at 11 a.m., Satur day, July 12th, at Ponce de Leon Landing in Melbourne Beach, Florida. Brian was a good friend with a zest for life and a sense of adventure that was intoxicating. He had a passion for wildlife and loved the outdoors. He was a renaissance man who was both cerebral and athletic. Brian was a talented guitarist as well as an outstanding photographer. He was sociable, yet introspective. Brian loved to have fun, but had a spiritual side that centered him. He was both competitive and gracious. He was one of the most dedicated and attentive fathers I have ever known. He loved a lot of things in life, but none more so than his family. Brian's soul is in heaven, but his spirit lives on in the soulful music he composed and performed; in the magnificent images that he captured in photos; in the wildlife and habitat that he enjoyed and protected; and in all the lives he touched. But most of all, Brian lives on in Lisa's loving heart; in Laif's hearty laugh; in Maya's beaming smile; and in Jada's gleaming eyes.

Brian has left the world, the land, and the creatures that inhabit the woods and water in a kinder place due to his love for life and the values that he held high in his heart. We thank Brian for his many contributions and for touching our lives along the way with a big smile and a warm heart.
