It is not surprising that Don lived with friendship, commitment, and loving family and friends, and lived fully.
Don was my first boyfriend. We met at a dance that was held on Onondago Hill. He could "do the Freddie" like no one else.
I doubt many boyfriends went to the trouble to get from Marcellus to Westvale, without a car. It involved taking a bus, and miles upon miles of walking. To see Don walk, was like seeing Mercury, with his long, swift strides. Beautiful. And often, on his skateboard, coming over the slight hill.
Don was always a gentleman, respecting our mid-teen ages, and, well, it just wasn't done to behave otherwise.
I can still see him standing in the kitchen helping my mother with ironing. His mother, Loretta, a wonderful, wonderful woman, raised him well. I met Greg and Tom, and, they, too, were outstanding humans. Of course, my own mother loved him. I don't know how he was able to handle her illness, but he did.
Later on, Don made a couple attempts to save me from a path it seemed would be detrimental. (It was). I wish I had been able to let him. But paths change, and Don chose all the right ones, and the right people with whom to share this life.
It grieves me greatly to learn of his passing.
Don was a grand human being.
Signed, 'Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter'.
