Though I knew that the day would eventually come, I was still saddened to learn of Isabel's passing. The last time I saw her, she still was talking of the time when she would be able to do all of the things that she preferred to do herself--she hated relying on others to do things that she would rather do "my way". She never lost hope of the ability to be able to fully use her legs and hands again.
Isabel was an animal lover and spared no expense to give her beloved Bobo and Nicky any necessary medical care--until there was nothing left that could be done, and then she brought them home, each in their turn, to spend eternity with a very personalized tombstone professing her love, forever, in granite. She donated to many animal organizations. She abhorred animal abuse and neglect. Because she wouldn't allow a couple of her tenants, way back in 1994, to keep a most beautiful lilac point siamese Manx cat that they were not properly caring for, we have been blessed for the past 14 years with Tiffany, who has been our special fur baby giving us more love than we could possibly deserve. It was Isabel's plan to keep her, but, only indoors where she would be safe. Tiffany had other ideas and refused to eat because she was no longer allowed to go outside. Isabel didn't know what to do and was scared that Tiffany would starve herself, so she called me ,as she knew my love of cats, and asked if I would like to take her and see if I would have any luck at getting her to eat. The rest is history. Tiffany has thrived for many years--and ONLY living indoors!
The Isabel that I knew was a remarkably strong, outspoken, and thoughtful lady. I will miss her--and can only hope to have a fraction of the spirit, will, and stamina that she exhibited, if I live so long.

Rest easy, dear Isabel.
