Maria Doerr Seemer

Maria Doerr Seemer, 87, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, November 3.  She was surrounded by her loved ones during her last few days at Cape Canaveral Hospital's Hospice Care Center.

Maria was born in Bad Homburg vor der Hohe, Germany, to Heinrich and Katharina Doerr.  She was the fourth of five children.  During her childhood, she excelled in athletics, particularly swimming, which she continued to enjoy throughout her life.  During World War II, she met and married Robert (Bob) M. Seemer and immigrated to Elmira, NY.  After having moved to Seattle, the family settled in Cocoa, Florida, enjoying the beauty and excitement of Brevard county, the space program, and Cocoa High School basketball during the 1960s.  Maria and Bob retired in Suntree where they met wonderful friends and enjoyed active lives traveling, playing bridge, golfing, and swimming.

She was predeceased in death by her husband, Robert in 2011, her sisters Marianna and Annaliese, and her brother Friedrich.  She is survived by her sons Robert (Maria), Steve, and Jon (Debbie), five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and sister Emmi.

The family gives special thanks to the professional caregivers who supported Maria with love and compassion, helping her retain the dignity and providing the comfort she deserved.  Of particular note were the professional staff at Life Care Center in Melbourne, and Hospice of Healthfirst at Cape Canaveral Hospital.

The family plans to have a private memorial service later in Germany. 

Her spirit lives on in family and friends, as we will always remember her with great love, good humor, and deep gratitude.
