Nancy Deneen Obituary

Nancy B. Deneen

Melbourne, FL

Nancy Borden Deneen, 81, entered into eternal life on Thursday, June 19, 2014. Born on March 9, 1933 in Akron, OH, she was the beloved child of the late Karl and Ruth Palmquist-Borden. Nancy was a graduate of Allegheny College, PA and pursued a career in education. She was an educator for Greenwich Public Schools and the Stamford School District in CT. Out of her many academic accomplishments, she was most proud of implementing the Unwed Mother's Education Program in the Stamford, CT school district, which was targeted towards educating teenage mothers.

Nancy retired to Brevard County, FL in 1996 coming from Greenwich, CT, where she appreciated the warmer climate and being closer to her family. In her leisure, she enjoyed golfing, attending sporting events and traveling the world. She was an active member of the Hope Episcopal Church in Melbourne and Mallards Landing Women's Golf Group. Nancy will be remembered by many as a wonderful and caring tutor that exemplified the importance of a strong education.

She leaves memories to be cherished by her husband of 56 years, Thomas J. Deneen; sons, Thomas B. and David M. Deneen; granddaughters, Morgan and Shelby Deneen; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Robert Borden.

A Celebration of Nancy's Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 27th at the Hope Episcopal Church, 190 Interlachen Rd., Melbourne, FL 32940. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Nancy to The American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.

Sincere condolences to the Deneen family. One of my favorite memories of Mrs. Deneen in Glenville School was the way she rolled pens in the palms of her hands and they would make clacking sounds against her rings. Now when I find myself doing that, I always think of her.

To the Entire Dennen Family-
I am so sorry about your loss. I have many fond memories of Nancy. I remember her being a teacher at Jullian Curtiss School when I went to school there. I would kid her and call her "Elsie" and she would laugh. When I worked at the Greenwich YMCA Day Camp years later at Calf Island Tommy was a camper there. Nancy had come out to the Parents' Visiting Day. She teased me and said "Elsie's here". I fell of the float when she said that. She was just the most caring teacher. One time I twisted my knee in the hallway and she picked me up and comforted me. She was the best.
