Merritt Island - Peggy Moody Knowles (85) was called home by Jesus on Thursday May 6, 2021 at Cape Canaveral Hospital. Her family was with her.

She was born on August 12, 1935 in Charleston, South Carolina. She is survived by her husband, Duane Knowles, her children and their spouses, David and Susan Knowles and Laura and Troy Smith, her brothers and sisters, Evelyn Glenn, James Moody and Jennie Lee Duval, and her five grandchildren and spouse, Adam and Logan Knowles, Evelyn and Tate Godwin, and Zoe and Luke Smith. She is preceded in death by her sister Sarah Jenkins and brother Arthur Robert Moody.

A viewing is planned for Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 5-7 pm at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge and a funeral service is to be held Thursday, May 13, 2021 beginning at 11:00 am at the same location.

The Peggy Knowles Memorial Scholarship has been set up to assist a Merritt Island High School graduate interested in pursuing a career in Education. Donations can be made to Brevard Schools Foundation, 2700 Judge Fran Jameson Way, Vieira, Florida 32940.

Peggy graduated From Winthrop College, South Carolina in 1957. Education was her passion and she first began her career teaching in Georgia. After moving to Florida she taught at Merritt Island High School from 1972 to 1997 teaching Latin and Humanities. She was named teacher of the year in 1983 and 1997. Peggy was a selfless volunteer at Divine Mercy Church and School where her children attended.

She resided on Merritt Island married to the love of her life, Duane for 55 years. She cared very deeply for her family and even in her last moments held us in her thoughts. She received Last Rites on Wednesday before slipping away due to complications from pneumonia. A devoted mother and sister, a loyal friend, she lived her faith every day of her life.
