Richard Severance Obituary

Richard Severance - Palm Bay - Richard Russel Severance, 72, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009 at his home in Palm Bay. Mr. Severance was born in Scranton, PA and moved to Palm Bay in 1966. He was a retired Electronic Technician for Intersil and had taught Bujinkan Budo Taijitsu for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bessie; a daughter and son in law, Kimberly and Steven Hornak and two grandchildren, Tyler and Katelyn Hornak. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.z, at Palm Bay Funeral Home, 950 Malabar Road SE, Palm Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Honor America (The Liberty Bell Museum), 1601 Oak Street, Melbourne, FL 32901 or the Hacienda Girls Ranch, 326 Croton Road, Melbourne, FL 32935. Mr. Severance will be warmly remembered throughout the community, as he touched so many lives, including my own, in subtle, yet profound, ways. At a young age, he taught me that mindfulness and awareness of our actions and surroundings can be our greatest sources of strength. That concept has been a gift that I have carried with me through life. As you mourn his passing, my hope is that you will find peace in his memory. My heart is with you.

Dick was both a character and a gentleman. We'll always remember him in his big hat with that bemused smile on his face, patiently explaining something or working with folks while dropping amusing comments and observations and generally having fun.
