Robert Pollock Obituary

Robert R. Pollock

Cocoa Beach - Robert R. Pollock was born on January 9, 1926 in Plains, Pennsylvania and passed away at his Cocoa Beach, Florida home on January 3, 2021.

At the age of 18, Bob enlisted, and was accepted, in the United States Air Force Aviation Cadet Training Program. World War II ended shortly thereafter as did his hope of becoming an Air Force pilot.

In 1948, following his military service, Bob accepted a two-year special assignment with Creole Petroleum Corporation in Maracaibo, Venezuela. The ship entered port in Venezuela on Saint Patrick's Day. Creole was a newly established affiliate of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, and the two years became a lifelong career of 38 years in Judibana, Caracas, and western Venezuela. Bob became the Jefe de Materiales, responsible for inventory and operations for Creole.

In 1983, Creole's concessions matured so Bob served on the transition team that delivered the company's assets to the Venezuelan government's newly established oil company, Lagoven. Upon completion of this transition, he was transferred to Colombia to begin a new exploration initiative in Barranquilla and Bogota.

It was in Venezuela where Bob met and married Mary Ann Jennings, a teacher at the company school. All six children, Elizabeth, Robert, Jane, Sandra, James, and John were born in Venezuela.

Bob retired in 1985, and he and Mary Ann found Cocoa Beach to be an ideal place to begin the next chapter of their lives in the United States. In retirement, the Pollocks set sail to see the world, cruising to 188 different countries and islands on all seven continents; they visited all existing wonders of the world, major waterways, waterfalls, and rivers spanning the Earth.

Bob was very active in school programs, Little League baseball, Scouting (father of two Eagle Scouts), CCD in Venezuela and Colombia, and various committees at the Church of Our Saviour in Cocoa Beach.

When asked what contributed to his longevity, he simply stated that he lived his life in moderation and always kept his faith.

Bob is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Mary Ann Pollock, his six children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at the Church of Our Saviour in Cocoa Beach at a later date, and Bob will be cremated with interment in the Church of Our Saviour Memorial Garden. You may sign Mr. Pollock's guestbook at www.beckmanwilliamson.com
