PENN YAN - Amos S. Hammond, age 93, of Penn Yan, passed on June 6, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 26 at the Bluff Point United Methodist Church, followed by interment in Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan with military honors; with a reception to be announced.

Amos was born in Lodi, N.Y., the eighth of 11 children of Albert and Frances Hammond. He married Laura Hallenbeck on December 11, 1948 at Barrington Community Church. They recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Amos grew up in Yates County and served in the United States Navy during WWII.
He was a vineyardist for more than 30 years, co-owning with his wife, Hammond's Fruit Stand for over 15 years. After selling the family farm, he started and operated a construction business alongside his two sons. Amos's talents of carpentry are spread throughout Yates County.
Over his lifetime, he played slow-pitch softball, bowled in several leagues and loved to play cards. He volunteered for many organizations and served as a member, president and manager of the Yates County Fair Board, was a longtime board member of the Jerusalem Town Board and Zoning Board of Appeals, president of the Yates County Farm Bureau, and a member of New York State Grape Growers Association, Barrington Rifle Club, Bluff Point United Methodist Church and American Legion. After retirement, Amos was a member of the American Legion Honor Guard in Leesburg, Fla. for six years.
Amos enjoyed raising their family with Laura and was always generous to others. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending their retirement winters in Florida for over 25 years. In his retirement he was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Laura; two daughters Jean Murdock of Penn Yan and Joan (Russ) Giesy of Deland, Fla.; and two sons Wade of Penn Yan and Glenn (Val) Hammond of Port Orange, Fla.; eight grandchildren Julie Voak of Penn Yan, Jewel (Claude) McRoberts of Lafayette, Ind., Jay (Sarah) Giesy of Trumansburg, N.Y., Jerri (Aaron) Jackson of Deland, Fla., Jessica (Bill) Bacher of Penn Yan, Chris (Alex) Hammond of Saltillo, Miss., Erin (Brian) Cunningham of Penn Yan, and Mark Hammond of Penn Yan; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Amos was predeceased by his parents; 10 siblings; daughter, Lori; grandson, Shawn Murdock; and son-in-law, Don Murdock.
