Anthony M. "Tony" Prete

GENEVA - Anthony M. "Tony" Prete, 76, of Carter Rd., passed away on Wednesday (July 9, 2014) in his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Friends may call at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St. Geneva on Sunday (July 13, 2014) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Members of Winnek Post #396 American Legion will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. for a service for their departed brother. Funeral Services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Monday (July 14, 2014) in the funeral home and at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions, in his memory, may be made to Our Lady of Peace Parish, Ontario Yates Hospice, or to a charity of one's choice.
Tony was born in Geneva on February 22, 1938, to the late Joseph and Lucia Chacchia Prete. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Carpellotti and the USS Hale where he cruised around the world. He was a barber in Geneva for 40 years and he was an accomplished wood turner and an avid golfer. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Winnek Post #396 American Legion , a life member of the Northside Fire Dept. and the Big Oak Golf Club Tuesday and Thursday morning leagues.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 50 years, Sandra "Sandy" Updike Prete; his brother, John Prete of Syracuse; his brothers-in-law Jess Smith of New Hampshire, Anthony Felice of Waterloo, Bernard (RoseMary) Updike of Poway, Calif., Donald (Kay) Updike of Fairport; sisters-in-law Florence Woods of LaMasa, Calif., Doris Hendricks, Peggy Thompson, Helen Updike and Carol Prete, all of Geneva; and special friends Bob and Bev Young and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur, Joseph, Albert and Francis Prete; his sisters, Mary Lawson, Josephine Felice and Palma Smith; brothers-in-law, John Lawson, Robert and Paul Updike, Fran Woods and Robert DeWall; and his sister-in-law, Jane DeWall.
