Donald Crowley Obituary
Born Donald Lasher Crowley to Walter and Doris Crowley in Rochester in 1931, he moved to Newark in 1936. Don graduated Newark High School in 1949 and attended Syracuse University. A member of the SU baseball team, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1953. Don was a 1956 graduate of Harvard Law School.
He married Janice Anne Sweeney of Geneva in 1957, and together they raised six children.
Don served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958 and was stationed at the Presidio in Calif. In 1959, he began his law career at Donovan Leisure in NYC, and moved to Newark in 1963 to begin private practice. He retired from law in 1997, after serving as the Wayne County Attorney for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anne; son, Michael (Maura); son, William (Cindi) and their children, Jessica (Jesse), Meghan (David), and Matthew; son, Kevin (Cindy) and their daughter, Bridget; son, Timothy; son, Thomas (Amie) and their children, Patrick and Mitchell; and daughter, Mary Anne DeJohn (Jason) and their children, Katherine, Jackson, and Ryan. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death was his brother, Robert.
Calling hours will be on Friday (February 10) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Murphy & Sons Funeral Home in Newark.
A mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday (February 11) at 1 p.m. at St. Michael's Church, 401 South Main St., Newark, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Newark Public Library, 121 High Street, Newark, N.Y. 14513.
His family thanks the staff of the Bilz Unit at DeMay Living Center for the respectful care they provided.
