Edna Choffin Obituary

PHELPS - Edna Lois Choffin, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on Nov. 30, 2025, at the age of 77 in Lakeland, Fla.
Born on Feb. 9, 1948, in Bath, N.Y., Edna's life was a tapestry of passion, education, and unwavering love for her family, her students, and her cherished pets.
Edna's journey through life was one marked by dedication and warmth. Her marriage to her devoted husband, Arthur ""Art"" Choffin, was a beautiful partnership that flourished over 62 years. Together, they built a life filled with mutual respect, laughter, and an abundance of care. Arthur's companionship provided Edna with unwavering support as they navigated life's many adventures.
A lifelong advocate for education, Edna obtained her master's degree in education and shared her love for learning as an art teacher at Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School. Her classroom was a sanctuary where creativity was nurtured, and young minds were encouraged to express themselves through art. Edna's passion for teaching was evident in the way she inspired her students to see beauty in the world around them and to translate it into their artwork.
Outside of the classroom, Edna's zest for life continued through her love for bike riding. As the proud owner of five bikes, she could often be found pedaling through the streets and trails, her spirit free as the wind. This love for cycling was not just a hobby but a reflection of her adventurous soul and her commitment to an active lifestyle.
Edna's compassionate nature extended beyond her human connections to the animal world. She and Arthur rescued five dogs throughout their life together, providing a loving home to these furry friends in need. The last two, poodles named Aurora and Mytee, brought immense joy to their lives. These loyal companions are a testament to Edna's nurturing heart, and they already miss her deeply.
Those who knew Edna will forever remember her as a loving, kind, and passionate individual. She had the unique ability to make each person feel seen and valued, whether it was through a simple conversation or a thoughtful gesture. Her legacy is one of generosity and affection, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her students, friends, and especially her family.
Edna's life was a beautiful example of how to live with purpose and joy. She embraced each day with open arms and a smile that could light up any room. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we take comfort in the knowledge that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
Edna Lois Choffin's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her beloved husband, Arthur, her dear friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
