Edwin Watling Obituary
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main Street, Geneva, N.Y.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Chaplain Brian Plate of the VA will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the charity of one's choice.
Edwin was born on September 5, 1925 in Dundee, N.Y. He was the son of the late Robert and Hazel Walsh Watling. After graduating from Dundee High School, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corp. in 1943. He was a B-25 Bomber Pilot during WWII. Edwin married Doris Twist on August 19, 1947 in Geneva, N.Y. They were happily married for 57 years until her death in December 2004. Edwin remained active in the US Air Force Reserves for 20 years and was employed at the Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, N.Y. as personnel manager. After his retirement from the Seneca Army Depot, he worked part-time in the Sporting Goods Dept. at Kmart in Geneva.
Edwin is survived by his son, Richard (Joann) Watling of Stony Brook, N.Y.; his daughters, Linda (Ted) Bohlk of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. and Janice Watling of Geneva; his sister, Margaret Sorensen of TX; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Payam) Danialzadeh, Christopher (Laurie) Bohlk, and Andrew (Caralyn) Watling; and eight great-grandchildren.
Edwin was predeceased by his loving wife, Doris; his brother, Charlie; and sisters, Loise, Harriet, and Pauline.
The family would like to express a special thank you to all the staff and volunteers at the Canandaigua VA for Edwin's outstanding care for the last 2 years. They would also like to thank Brenda Hodge, Judy Slotnick and Helen Snell for his excellent care before he entered the VA in November 2023.

Edwin was a special veteran we Met at the VA. He visited him every time we volunteered on Tuesday and Friday. He was always a perfect gentleman and sweet. He shared with us many stories over 4 1/2 years we knew him of his neighbors and friends. He especially talked all the time about his daughter Janice and how he wanted to make sure she was taken care of. Edwin was very well loved and respected all all staff and other veterans at the VA. He will be missed and always remembered by my husband Mark and I. I was the primary person who got him ti go on Souring Valor with Janice which was a very special trip to the biggest World War 11 museum in the country. RIP our special veteran and friend. You are in your forever home with our father in heaven. Much love always Marsha and Mark Lempert
