Grace Monaghan Obituary

PENN YAN - Grace C. Monaghan, 73, of Clifton Street, died Friday (Dec. 25, 2009) peacefully at home.
Calling hours for Grace will be 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 8, at St. Michael's Church, with Mass to begin at noon. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Keuka Comfort Care Home, Penn Yan Elks Lodge or Rock Ministries.
Grace was born Dec. 21, 1936, the daughter of George and Sarah Robinson Schroeher. Grace was the first president of the Penn Yan Women's Club, past chaplain of the Elks Lodge and member of the Women of the Moose. She was past executive secretary of the Red Cross and a cantor at St. Michael's Church for many years. Grace was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to sing, dance, bake and play bridge.
Grace is survived by two daughters, Maureen Wise and Mrs. (Thomas) Eileen Best, both of Penn Yan; son-in-law, Lawrence Wise; grandchildren, Paul, Troy, Erin Wise, Emily, Mary (Matthew) Spite, Peter, Thomas and Daniel Johnson; one great-grandchild, Makayla Spite; and sister, Catherine Balzer of Virginia Beach.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 2000; daughters, Kathleen and Susan; sons, Peter and Tim; brothers, George and Jim Schroeher; and sister, Terry Madaglia.
