Jean Vaughn Obituary

PENN YAN - Jean Marie Vaughn, passed peacefully on October 5, 2022, at age 94.

Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence "Stub" Vaughn; and parents, Norm and Catherine Harris.

Survived by her children, Steven (Darryl) Vaughn, Donna (Barry) Gavette, Susan Vaughn Merron and Beverly (Rob) Volk; grandchildren, Megan, Meredith, Jesse (Roya), Rachel (Jason), James (Andrea) and Kaitlin (Cheyenne); and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Mitra.

Jean graduated from Keuka College and later worked with pre-school-aged children. She created Creative Depot Nursery school, a developmental program, and as a social worker for the Penn Yan Central School District pre-K program. While at Keuka College she met and married the love of her life in 1948 after Stub returned from serving in the Navy during WWII. They would build a long, loving life in Penn Yan in the house he and Kenny Goodsell built where they raised their family and she lived until her passing. During her life she enjoyed skiing, camping, and reading. In retirement they took many camping trips with their travel trailer to visit cousins in Texas, with their children's families, and a cross-country trip. She enjoyed meeting her friends daily for breakfast at the Wagner restaurant.

A celebration of life is being planned for the Spring.

In remembrance of Jean, donations can be made to Keuka Comfort Care or the Yates County Humane Society.
