John Thoms Obituary

CLYDE - John William Thoms Jr., age 66, of Clyde, N.Y. passed away unexpectedly on September 2, 2025. He was born on June 12, 1959 in Lyons, N.Y. to Joan and John (Bill) Thoms Sr.

John was a lifelong farmer and the proud owner of Thoms Farm, where he poured his heart and soul into the land for decades. Farming was not just his occupation; it was his passion and legacy. From sunrise to sunset, John dedicated himself to nurturing the soil, caring for his animals, and ensuring the farm thrived for future generations. He found joy in hard work, in watching crops grow, and in sharing the bounty of the land with family, friends, and neighbors. Above all, John cherished time spent with his grandchildren. Whether it was teaching them about life on the farm, sharing stories, or simply enjoying their laughter, his happiest moments were with them by his side.

Beyond the farm, John was known for his generosity, warm spirit, and unwavering work ethic. He was a mentor to many in the farming community and cherished the friendships built around shared labor and shared harvests.

John is survived by his mother, Joan Thoms; devoted partner, Eleanor Fuller; four children, Terry (Harriet), Derek (Erika), Kymberli (Thomas) Wilson, Blake (Brooke); his 14 grandchildren, Garrett, Jacquelyn, Braxton, Zella, Khloe, Gavin, Thomas, Weston, Waylan, Walker, Addison, Brady, Lydia, and Cole. His siblings, Suzette (William) Lotz, Mark (Mary), and Matt (Debbie), and several nieces and nephews. The loving mother of his four children, Debora (Furman) Thoms.

He was preceded in death by his father John (Bill) Thoms Sr. and his nephew Willam Lotz III.

A private family burial will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery in Clyde, N.Y. at 2:00 p.m. on September 13, 2025. Friends and family are invited to gather afterwards, 3:30 p.m. at the Clyde Fire Department to share memories of John, celebrating a life lived with devotion, love, and purpose.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Clyde Fire Department.

John will be remembered always for his passion for farming, his love for family, and the countless lives he touched.

As classmates in high school I found John to be very quiet and kind. Then of course our paths crossed through babysitting his children. My husband often talked about John with a smile from childhood memories. I´m sorry we will not be able to attend the memorial service as it is our grand daughter´s 2nd Birthday. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
