Karen Heidrick Obituary

Newark - Karen Heidrick, 64, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with her family by her side.

Karen was born to Robert and Margaret (Carr) Warner on February 15, 1960, in Newark, N.Y. She spent her life there, graduating from Newark High School in 1978. She continued her education at Finger Lakes Community College after earning a degree in teaching from Nazareth College. Later, she earned her Master's degree in reading and Psychology.

Karen dedicated her career to working with children, teaching at Roosevelt Childrens Center, Geneva Central School, the Alex Eligh Community Center, Newark Head Start and the Youth Advocacy Program. At the Alex Eligh Community Center, she helped developed numerous programs to support and inspire young people. She also shared her love of sports by teaching skiing at Brantling and teaching swimming lessons for AECC.

Beyond her work in education, Karen was a published author, writing about her mission trips to South America, where she worked closely with youth. Above all, she was deeply devoted to her family, cherishing time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Karen will be remembered by her husband of forty-seven years, Norm; her children, Brent (Emily) Heidrick and Brad (Katina) Heidrick; her grandchildren, Gage, Noah, Myles, Camryn, Riley Jo, Dayana, and Corbin; great-grandchildren, Haylee and Melliana; her mother, Margaret "Peg" Percy; her sisters, Kathy (Sam) Polizzi, Kelly (Roberto) Pettinato and Kimberly (Chris) Kaps; mother-in-law, Nancy Heidrick; brothers-in-law, Jon (Leslie) Heidrick and Dan Heidrick; her uncle, Timothy (Linda) Carr; and her aunt, Beverly VanHoover; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and best friends.

Karen was predeceased by her father, Robert Warner.

The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2024, at Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St, Newark. Private burial will take place in Port Gibson Cemetery.
