Merle Olschewske Obituary

WATERLOO/FAYETTE - Merle L. Olschewske, 88, passed away peacefully at the Huntington Living Center on Tues. (July 17, 2012). Friends may attend a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Mon. (July 23), in Canoga Cemetery, Canoga, N.Y.
Merle was born on May 28, 1924 in Varick, N.Y., and was a son of the late Frederick and Grace (Pierson) Olschewske. He retired from the Seneca Army Depot in 1984, and then went on to work for the Seneca County Court System for 20 plus years. Merle was a founding life member of the Varick Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed bowling, playing softball, coaching little league baseball, hunting, fishing, gardening, and was an avid golfer. Merle was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his son James (Sharon) Olschewske of Geneva; grandchildren, Lauren, Kyle, Wendy and Joshua (Amy) Olschewske; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Merle was predeceased by his wife Norma (Beck) Olschewske; son, Merle, Jr.; brothers, sister, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
