Richard Wyckoff Obituary

MELBOURNE, FLA./DRYDEN/INTERLAKEN - Richard Earl "Dick" Wyckoff, a beloved father and husband, respected businessman and friend, passed away in Melbourne, Fla.. on Friday (April 3, 2015) following a courageous battle with respiratory disease.
A funeral service will be held Saturday (April 11) at 2:00 pm at the Interlaken Reformed Church, Interlaken, N.Y. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken, NY. Arrangements are by the Hurlbut Funeral Home, Main Street, Interlaken, N.Y.
Donations may be made to the local animal shelter or Humane Society of your choice.
Dick was born in Ithaca, N.Y., and grew up in Dryden and Interlaken, in New York's Finger Lakes, where he began what would be a life-long love affair with the craft and business of printing, including stints in local print shops and at weekly newspapers in the area. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif., with a Bachelor of Science in Printing Engineering. He then went to work for Dow Jones, the publisher of the Wall Street Journal and Barron's, at the company's Oakland, California plant. There followed a nomadic corporate life, managing printing and business operations for Dow Jones, Gannett and other companies at papers large and small, with stints in communities in California, Ohio, upstate and downstate New York, New Jersey and, finally, in western Pennsylvania, where he finished his career at the Johnstown Tribune Democrat. Dick's love for the business of news was matched by his devotion to his family. He also had a keen interest in sports cars and classic automobiles, loved to read mystery novels and Louis L'amour westerns, and was an enthusiast of fine dining.
Dick is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Phyllis (nee Cushman); son, Paul and his wife, Colleen of High Bridge, N.J.; daughter, Lisa and her husband, Dr. K. Jeffrey Saluck of Satellite Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Will Wyckoff, Jennifer Saluck, and Kevin Wyckoff; brother, Paul and his wife, Marge of Interlaken, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.
