Robert Corwin Obituary

BLOOMFIELD - Rob Corwin, his unexpected death on August 21, 2021 surprised and saddened his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held in Glenwood Cemetery, Geneva at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in Rob's memory may be made to a local food bank/pantry or to a local animal shelter.

Rob was born February 23, 1948, in Geneva, N.Y. to the late Francis W. Corwin and Eloise (Stapleton) Cavallaro. He was a 1966 graduate of Geneva High School and a 1968 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, Conn. where he was the class president. Rob served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971. He was a personal chef and aide for two Generals during his service and received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service while stationed in the Ryukyu Islands, Okinawa.

Rob's wanderlust and adventurous spirit led him, over the years, to reside in Mass., Ariz., Texas and Maine before returning to the Finger Lakes. A master baker and chef, Rob shared his artistic creations with numerous resorts, restaurants and venues. He continued to cater, plan parties and design beautiful landscapes/gardens for others during his retirement. Rob was a kind, generous and gentle soul who never met a stranger. He quietly helped others and took pleasure in gifting his famous cookies (Hermits!) to everyone. Rob loved road trips, cars (old and new) (Nash Rambler!), antiques, flea markets/swap meets, Niblacks, long walks and he never met a dessert he didn't like. He had the utmost admiration for the beautiful things in life: art, music, nature, dogs (his and yours), fine jewelry and Ringers' eclairs. Rob enjoyed the company of his friends and family, typically while savoring a great meal. We will miss Rob's ever-present sense of humor and his distinctive laugh. Rob truly left the world a better place.

He is survived by sisters Christine (Charlie) of West Palm Beach, Fla., Ruth of Orlando, Fla., SJ (Sara Jane) (Larry) of Columbia, S.C. and Doll (Elaine) of Corning, N.Y.; stepmother, Arlene of Corning, N.Y.; nephew, Kristopher of Towson, Md.; niece, Bianca of Corning, N.Y.; and cousin, David of Boulder, Colo. Rob will be missed by his family of friends Rick, Michelle and Min, Scott, Rosebud, Dorothy, Nancy, Rhonda, Rick, John and Gizmo; his veteran friends from Parkside and Rochester; and many more friends too numerous to mention.

Aside from his parents and wonderful grandmothers ""Na"" Corwin and ""Na"" Stapleton, his first mentors in the kitchen, Rob was preceded in death by his brothers Peter, Stephen and David; his aunts Ruth and Mena; and by his nephews Chip, Matt and Jeremy.

The Cowin family requested Mull Funeral Home to assist with these arrangements.

Rob was a true friend. He and Dave Weller taught me how to draw cartoons. Rob was multitalented with a sympathetic ear and a generous nature. We
Laughed a great deal in school.
Now he jokes with the angels.
Great guy. We were fortunate to have him as our friend. May God bless his family.

My deepest sympathy to family & friends. I am deeply saddened & shocked to learn of his passing. Rob was my date for our senior ball but most of all a dear friend. During homeroom at GHS we would pass sketches of his adorable Snoopy cartoons & laugh. (who studied?) wish I had saved them. I did not know Rob lived close to our house. Wish I had known sooner. We should always keep our friends near and close to our hearts. Praying he is at peace & in the arms of the Lord. He will be missed.

Classmates since 6th grade usually in the same home room too. He took me to the Sadie Hawkins dance in Jr high, he told me he knew he would dance all the dances if I went. Interesting that he became a chef even back then he had culinary interests., since it was a Sadie Hawkins dance he made my dance Bouquet
by taking a head of cauliflower using toothpicks inserting cherry tomatoes small curly cue carrots Black olives and cubes of cheese.
I remember when we were dancing another boy would come up and snap Rob´s suspenders and tried to cut in to dance with me. Rob would bow and then jokingly say get your own girl, there was nothing romantic of course just very good friends.
RIP Rob and keep smiling.
