Robert Wright Salisbury

PHELPS - Robert Wright Salisbury, 93, died on Friday (November 12, 2010) at Geneva General Hospital.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 20) at the United Church of Phelps with the Rev. A.J. Tierson officiating. Burial will be private in Resthaven Cemetery.
It is suggested that memorial donations be made to the United Church of Phelps, 58 Main St., Phelps, or the Phelps Historical Society, 66 Main St., Phelps, 14532.
Robert was born on February 8, 1917 in Philadelphia, Penn., the son of the late Frank and Winifred Wright Salisbury. As a young man, he struggled to come to terms with whether to pursue his love of music or expand his farming experience. He ultimately attended Cornell University and made a successful career as a well-known fruit and poultry farmer for many years.
Robert was a man of uncommon generosity, who loved life. He was a loyal friend and will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Robert was an active member of his beloved and lifelong community. He was a Town Assessor, an officer for the Zoning Board of Appeals and sat on the Town Board of Revise for 10 years. Robert was also a member of the United Church of Phelps, serving as a Deacon, Trustee and Ruling Elder.
Robert was a Rotarian, serving as President and a Paul Harris Fellow.
Robert is survived by his children: Thomas (Theresa) Salisbury of West Palm Beach, Fla., David Salisbury of Kerryville, Texas, Linda (Philip) Williams of Southport, Conn., Roberta George of Penfield, Ted (Jackie) Salisbury of Lyons and Laurel (Bertil) Hoberg of Goteborg, Sweden; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Salisbury was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Lee Knapp.
Funeral arrangements were made with the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main St., Phelps.
