Shirley Sheldon Obituary
The family will be present to receive friends from 4 p.m.to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 Main Street, Ovid. Prayers of committal will be held privately at Holy Cross Cemetery. A Celebration of her life will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Wellspring Church, 22 Teft Avenue in Clifton Springs.
The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Shirley's memory to kindly consider the Wellspring Church Food Distribution Center, PO Box 602, Clifton Springs, N.Y. 14432.
Shirley was born in Clifton Springs on July 20, 1941, a daughter of the late Michael and Dorothea (Dedrick) Grady. She graduated from Newark High School in 1959 and attended Willard State Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1962 with her degree in nursing. For over 35 years, Shirley served as a registered nurse at Willard Psychiatric Hospital as a surgical OR nurse, ward charge nurse, and in the Alzheimer's unit. Along with working full time as a Registered Nurse she sold Avon for many years. Shirley raised her three children, Michael, Chris, and Kim. Following her retirement, she continued to dedicate her life serving as a volunteer in the community at the Smith Opera House in Geneva, CMAC Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua, and at the Wellspring Church Food Distribution Center in Clifton Springs.
Shirley is survived by two sons, Michael Sheldon and Chris (Michele) Sheldon; a daughter, Kimberly (Les) Moore; ten grandchildren, Lacie Sheldon, Kassie (Wayne) Scobee, Tyler Sheldon, Molly Moore, Michaela Moore, Hunter Sheldon, Madison Moore, Chance Sheldon, Danielle (Chris) Bailey, and Tori (Billy) Ross; five great grandchildren, Kira, Riley, Bryce, Sawyer, and Jaxon; a sister, Katherine (Alan) Grady; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Burns and her longtime companion, Karl Hermann.

Mama Shirley!! I miss your sweet self. Our moms are supposed to live forever! God said you did well and your job is done here!! So many memories of you raising all of us kids. You hold such a special place in my heart and my children's heart. To them you were their grandma too. Your sweet soul is now resting in the arms of Jesus!!
