Sr. Joyce McGinn Obituary

Irondequoit: Suddenly, Sister Joyce was called home to God on January 6, 2016 during her more than 63 years as a Sister of Mercy.
Friends are welcome Monday 3 to 7 p.m. at the Mercy Center, 1437 Blossom Rd., where her Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m.. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday also at the Mercy Center. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy in her memory.
Sister Joyce entered the Sisters of Mercy from St. Ambrose Parish in Irondequoit. She spent many years teaching Elementary School at St. Rita, St. Thomas the Apostle, Our Lady of Lourdes, Elmira, St. Louis in Pittsford and as Principal of St. Michael's School in Newark. She also served as the Treasurer and Counselor on the Leadership Team and Local Leader of the Rochester Sisters of Mercy.
Sister Joyce loved every part of life. She was devoted to the Sisters of Mercy, her loving family and her Irish Heritage including "The fighting Irish of Notre Dame". She was dedicated to Catholic Education and took a keen interest in her students following them through life. Sister was the family historian and possessed a special gift for recalling details in the lives of her family and friends.
Sister is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and the Sisters of Mercy.
