Theresa "Tree" Carello-Smith

SENECA FALLS - Theresa Smith, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Geneva Living Center South.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, December 2, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Mull Funeral Home Inc., 113 Virginia Street, Waterloo. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home. A graveside service will be Wednesday, December 3, at 10 a.m. in Saint Columbkille Cemetery.

The family kindly requests memorial contributions be directed to Saint Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Theresa was born December 29, 1942, in Seneca Falls, the daughter of the late Nunzio and Lena (Galatone) Carello. Theresa attended Mynderse Academy and worked for many years at McCarthy Jewelers before retiring, and later continued serving the community in the pharmacy department at Wal-Mart in Seneca Falls, where she was fondly remembered for her warmth and laughter by coworkers and customers.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, supporting her grandchildren's activities, and was a devoted member of her church and community.

Theresa is survived by her son, Greg (Kelly) Emerick; daughter, Gretchen (Lenny) Marr; grandchildren Bethanie (Amanda) Emerick, Natalie (Trever) Simzer, Jacob (Brianna) DeWall, Joseph DeWall, Seager Emerick, and Hunter Emerick; great-grandchildren Lincoln Emerick, Jace DeWall and TJ Simzer; sisters Amelia Furano and Nancy VanDuyne; niece and goddaughter Sara Belle and Paulette Dahl. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins and several cherished friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her life partner, Gene Emerick; sisters Grace Patti, Francis Bruch and Dahlia Morabito; brother Nicholas Carello; brothers in law Fred Bruch, Joseph Furano, Luke Patti and Wally VanDuyne; 7 stepbrothers and sisters.
