Walter Gaun Obituary

SENECA FALLS– Walter Thomas Gaun, 80, passed away, Thursday, February 15, at home with his family by his side.

Walter's family request memorial contributions be directed to either: St. Francis and St. Clare Church, 25 Center St., Waterloo, N.Y. 13165 or the American Legion, Post 366, 48 State St., Seneca Falls, N.Y. 13148.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Center Street, Waterloo, Tuesday, (February 27), at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the NYS Veteran's Cemetery – Finger Lakes, 6632 St. Rte. 96A, Romulus, N.Y.

Walter was born August 7, 1943 in Williamsport, Pa., the son of the late George J. and Evelyn L. (Deam) Gaun. Walter graduated from Mynderse Academy in 1961 and went on to serve our country in the US Army, from 1963 – 1966. He was Foreman of the tool crib at Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls, until his retirement in 2002. Walter was a member of the American Legion Post 366 in Seneca Falls, where he served as Commander and on the Executive Committee and was also a member of the Honor Guard. He was chairman of the Seneca Falls Boys State, held office for the Seneca Falls Little League and coached baseball for many years. Walter especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Walter is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joy (Bordner) Gaun; his daughter Tedra Gerstner: his son Thomas Gaun; grandchildren Jack and Elisa Gerstner, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia (Jim) Uerkvitz.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Rochester Regional Hospice for the love and care they showed to their husband, father and grandfather.
