Walter "Lou" Matwiejow

LAMOKA LAKE - April 20, 1961 – November 4, 2025 - Walter "Lou" Matwiejow, 64, of Lamoka Lake, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of November 4, 2025 at the Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center in Rochester.

Born on April 20, 1961 to Gail Andrews and the late Walter Matwiejow, Lou grew up surrounded by family and the simple joys of small town life. He shared a close bond with his sister, Kim Matwiejow, that endured throughout his life.

Lou spent his years on Lamoka Lake where he raised his son, Brock, at Barnard's Camp, a place that became both home and haven. He found his greatest joy on the water whether boating, canoeing, or casting a line, surrounded by friends and neighbors who became family. Lou loved a good game of cornhole, cards, or dice, and could often be found laughing late into the night by the campfire. In the early spring, he tended carefully to his garden, later sharing the bounty of his summer harvest with friends and family around the lake. His easy laughter, generous spirit, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Lou is survived by his mother, Gail Andrews; his sister, Kim Matwiejow; his son, Brock Matwiejow; and two grandchildren, Benjamin Matwiejow and Logan Matwiejow. He will be deeply missed by his best friend, Paula; his close friends, the Ayers family, Kim, Galen, Lindsay, and Brandon, and by the many friends and extended family of Lamoka Lake who shared in his life and laughter.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Barnard's Camp, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember him in the place he loved most.
