William McNicholas Obituary

GENEVA – William T. McNicholas, 87, of Geneva, passed away peacefully on Monday (December 10, 2012).
Friends may call at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., on Thursday (December 13) from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 9 a.m. on Friday (December 14) in the funeral home and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, in his memory, may be made to Our Lady of Peace Parish or to a charity of one's choice.
Bill was born April 20, 1925 in Geneva, N.Y., a son of the late Thomas and Gertrude Hosking McNicholas. He graduated from DeSales High School. He worked for the Geneva Ice Company and Geneva Forge. He retired as Vice-President of Geneva Welding Supply in 1987. Bill was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. Bill was an avid fisherman in his youth, loved gardening, and was a devoted fan of Notre Dame, the Yankees, Buffalo Bills and Syracuse Basketball. After retirement Bill became an avid golfer, and enjoyed traveling with his wife Ruth, spending many winters in Florida where they developed new friendships and became shuffleboard enthusiasts.
Bill is survived by his children and their spouses, James (Hilda) McNicholas, David (Molly) McNicholas, Kathleen (Jack) Kipp, Mary (Jim) Perry, and Jane (Dale) Mosher; his sister, Jean (John) Schibley; grandchildren, Anna (Alan) Malyj, Thomas (Laura) McNicholas, Kristy McNicholas, William (Amy) McNicholas and David McNicholas; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; brother-in-law, George (Rose) Tills; and sister-in-law, Joanne Dressler.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Ruth in 2011; and his brother, Richard McNicholas.
Bill will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends.
The family wishes to thank extended family members, friends, and neighbors for their loving kindness to Bill over the past several years. The family would also like to thank Finger Lakes Health and the Living Center South Staff.
