Gerard Waring Obituary

Gerard (Jerry) Paul Waring, 67, of Cumming passed away March 22, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rockville Centre, N.Y., he was the son of the late Walter and Mildred Waring.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brian S. Waring (surviving spouse, Heather Waring) of whom he was enormously proud.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Waring of Cumming; children, Christine Waring (Rolf) Versluis of Milton, Matthew P. Waring of Atlanta; brothers, Walter Waring of Burnt Hills, N.Y., Richard Waring of Euless, Texas, Thomas Waring of Saratoga, N.Y.; cherished grandchildren, Taylor Waring, Austin Waring, and Caroline, Grant, Julia and Lilah Versluis.
Jerry spent his career as a Special Agent in the FBI. During that time he had the opportunity to work on interesting and unique cases. He also held the titles of FBI National Academy Coordinator and Police Training Coordinator working to foster close and productive relationships with local law enforcement. He loved his work, but more than that, he loved his family.
Funeral services will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd Monday, March 26, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, March 25, from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org.

My thoughts are with all of you. I was saddened to her of Austin's grandfathers passing. It was clear from seeing the obituary this morning that he touched many lives and he will be missed by many.
Each of you will stay in my prayers as you navigate another loss.

Dear Nancy, Christine, Matthew and other family and friends. I had the privilege of working with Jerry from 1986-1992, while assigned to the Rossville RA. I was always very impressed with Jerry and his love for the FBI. It was evident that he was very proud to be an agent. Though our paths seldom crossed while I worked in Rossville, he always treated me as a friend when I saw him. I am saddened by his passing, but I am glad that I knew him, and I know he was loved and admired by his friends and coworkers. He was one of the few agents in the Bureau that knew my Uncle Gerald, a 30 year agent who retired in 1972. God bless you all, and know that Jerry made a positive and enduring impact on those who knew and worked with him.

It was very sad to hear of Jerry's passing. Please accept my heartfelt sincere sympathies for your loss. Jerry has been a good friend since I met him on the Pine Ridge Sioux Indian Reservation, S. Dakota in 1975. I recently spoke to Jerry. We reminisced about the experiences we had on the Indian reservation, our good times in Gordon, NB where we stayed, and how we all had become life long friends. Jerry died from cancer after a long and courageous battle. In 1975 he also fought another courageous battle on the Indian reservation attempting to rescue FBI Special Agents Jack Coler (RIP) and Ron Williams (RIP) who were in a horrific gun battle with hostile Indians who subsequently killed Jack and Ron. God Bless Jack, Ron, and Jerry.. May they all Rest In Peace....
