Irene Keating

1939 - 2024

Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Irene Keating, died on October 15, 2024, at the age of 85. She was born Joan Irene Cyr to John and Gertrude Cyr in Presque Isle, Maine, on September 7, 1939. Irene was the heart of our home and family. She raised two children: John William Keating who preceded her in death and Julie Keating Baker (54) of Woodstock, GA in a happy and loving home. Irene was married to the love of her life, John Clark Keating, for 66 years. John and Irene loved traveling and camping in their RV. Irene's love of the beach was a constant in her life.
She is survived by her grandchildren Cinimon Keating Rose, Annie Keating Jennings, Katlyn Keating Bridgewaters, Ansley Elizabeth Baker, Nathaniel Keating Baker, and five great-grandchildren. Irene was the eldest child in her family. Her siblings are Donald Cyr (preceded in death), Frank Cyr, and Ann Cyr Dorpema of St. Augustine, FL. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Deborah Keating, and son-in-law Rick Sadowski, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Irene was a devoted and active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cumming, GA. She and John were the 11th founding families of the church. Irene was a long-time member of the choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister on countless church committees.
She was fondly referred to as "The Chicken Lady" during her years as a cafeteria worker at Forsyth County High School and North Forsyth High School. She enjoyed serving the students, teachers, coaches, and administrators meals made with love.
Irene was known for her kind heart, love of family, and love of music and dancing. Irene will be dearly missed. Visitation will be at McDonald and Son Funeral Home in Cumming, GA on October 25th from 9:30AM-12:00PM. At Irene's request, there will be a Funeral Mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Cumming GA at 1:00PM on October 25th, then we will celebrate her journey home with a reception from 2:30PM-4:30PM at McDonald and Son Reception Hall.
