Like many before me, I shared a love for Allison as she certainly was an excellent ambassador for women in aviation the world over. She displayed an unbelievable love for seaplanes and volunteerism throughout her years at Greenville, Maine and the International Seaplane Splash In. Her enthusiasm was shared with her partner Randy S., and together they were an unstoppable source of energy. Allison and Randy will certainly be sadly missed at events they so enjoyed!

Paying It Forward.
I´ve known Randy since we were teenagers, we´re about 6 years apart and we both went to Snider High School. Early on he was a role model, and someone I looked up to, like I´m sure he has been to many people over the years, because he was always planning, building, or doing something bigger and better. Randy always strived for excellence, and he took pride in exceeding people´s expectations in all of his many endeavors. He achieved the Eagle Scout rank, which is an exceptionally difficult challenge that only about 4% of Scouts ever achieve. For those not familiar, The Scout Slogan is "Do a Good Deed Daily", And the Boy Scout Law has 12 points which Scouts try to live up to every day. It reads "A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent." I think most people would say that Randy followed all these points exceptionally well, everday.
In recent years, Randy and I became close friends through aviation. I would attend the Tri-State Steuben County Airport meetings where Randy would run the meetings. Randy was a very passionate servant leader. He was extremely articulate, caring & considerate of everyone´s point of view, always open to learning more about a topic, and was fair when tough decisions had to be made. In his construction business and on the Boards that he served, he was always looking to move projects and initiatives forward for the greater good.
I first met Allison about 16 years ago on a guy´s trip snowmobile trip up to Gaylord where me and some of Randy´s other friends snowmobiled over to Randy´s cabin to warm up. Allison walked out of the cabin and she was immediately faced with taking some gruff from the guys, and super-impressively and with her quick wit and her smile, she handed it right back to them in a very direct manner in her positive, upbeat, casual fun way. The combination of how she handled that crew of Randy´s friends, the fact that she was wearing and old tattered snowmobile suit with the left boot all taped up and held together with duct tape, and the fact that she was totally comfortable in that situation, made me pause for a moment and realize that this is the girl for Randy. Over the years, as I was fortunate to spend more time with them, I learned more about how truly special Allison was and how they were meant for each other. What I learned about Allison was her depth of caring for all people and animals, and her absolutely positive outlook and quick insights. She could instantly find a way to see the silver linings and see the best in people and situations.
She and Randy had a natural way of connecting people and causes, always looking out for other people´s best interests. They were always thrilled to share anything about aviation or animals or helping others. Me and my family were very happy to share in the moment when they got married on their airstrip this September surrounded by family and friends (and a unicorn of course.)
In recent years, Randy and Allison graciously let my family keep our yellow Piper Cub seaplane on the beach at their place on Lake James. They helped us find it and connect with the previous owner and they introduced us to the people in their circle of friends in the aviation community that have helped us along the way. There were several times when Allison would be doing a charity donation ride for someone that had never experienced a seaplane ride, and she would take them up in the Maule and we would tag alongside in the Cub. On many occasions, on one of those perfect Indiana sunrise mornings or magical golden hour sunset evenings, they would fly their Maule or their Cub in formation alongside us above the lakes. And after some of the evening flights we would come back to their cottage as the daylight faded too soon and share a Mad Brew draft beer, have some great conversations, and meet more of their friends who were always dropping by.
I´ve heard it said from many people that just being around them made you want to be a better human and made you want to do bigger and better things with excellence, and I totally agree. They were pillars of the communities where they lived, worked, and played, and they will be greatly missed by so many.
On numerous occasions, for all of the help that Randy and Allison had given me and my friends and family over the years, and for letting us keep the Cub over at their place, I would tell them that we´d like to do something nice for you to show our appreciation, and they would always say, "We don´t need anything, we´re just paying it forward. We love to share and help people." It´s what they did every day.
I´ve been thinking about this a lot in recent days, and I truly feel their wish would be for us would be to continue their traditions of always looking for the silver linings, staying positive, following those Boy Scout guiding principles, being kind and helpful to each other and animals, doing big things, exceeding people´s expectations, and paying it forward every chance that we get.
If there is something I could suggest, perhaps as a tribute, I would suggest that on the occasion that we see a plane flying overhead, and especially a seaplane since they both loved them so much, we consider; pausing for a moment, thinking of Randy and Allison and their family and friends, being thankful for those around us and for the great times and conversations that we´ve shared, being thankful for the legacies that they have created, and that we try to do something to pay it forward for someone that day or that week whether it´s lending a helping hand, being kind to others or animals, or just being there for someone who may need a friend to talk to.

Mrs. Alison was a safe space for me and my sister. Words can´t express the kindness her heart had for all of her students. I was excited to see her every week for lessons. No matter what you had going on in your life, being in her class made your worries and challenges in life wash away. Her words and smile made you feel heard and listened to. Allison had a pure love for people and for horses like no other. She was a role model, a friend, and a teacher for me. I will miss her dearly.

Oh Allison,
We are going to miss you so. Thank you so much for all you contributed to so many lives, for the example you set, for your unbridled enthusiasm.
May the wind bear you aloft on seabird wings.
