So sorry to hear this. I'm really having a difficult time expressing how I feel. I want the words to be just right.

I met Charly in Beavercreek, Ohio while he was working at WDJX-FM. It was the first FM station I would work on. He hired me to do the Midday show and he and I immediately began a friendship that would take me to Ft Wayne and the, Those 2 Guys in the Morning morning show. Like all relationships, we had our share of laughs and disagreements, but through our entire time together, I always had tremendous respect for his opinions and views. I hope he felt the same way about me.

Charly was creative, friendly, passionate, serious, comical, honest, dependable and talented. He was always willing to share any spotlight we found ourselves in, without hesitation. He always made me feel like I was contributing to the process of doing a great show.

Charly had great business instincts and would let you know what he thought, if you engaged in a conversation on that subject. He was so much more than just a, Radio Personality as witnessed by the void he left.

I want to express the deep sadness I'm feeling to his family, his friends and all the people he touched through his broadcasts and his personal visits.

I never had a chance to meet his wife and children but I know in just talking to him he was a great husband and terrific father. In closing I would just like to say, I'm glad I was able to be a small part of his enormous circle of those who loved him. It goes without saying, he'll be deeply missed.

Sincerely,

Joel F Cella aka Tom Kelly

God bless the Butcher family and all friends of Charly. I spent family reunion vacations with Charly, and I had NO IDEA what a huge part of the Fort Wayne community he was. The outpouring through social media was like nothing I have ever seen. He was "just Charly" to me...a good man that was always easy to talk to. Love to all during this tragedy. We ALL lost one of the great ones.

I didn't know Charly other than on the radio, however have been a huge WOWO listener all my life. As well as a fan of Charly and Tony's back in the day. Charly got us hoooked on Wicks sugar cream pies!! I will miss seeing him at the Komet games as we sat near. I am so saddened by his passing and will keep you all in my prayers. He will never be forgotten and for that I hope you can hold your heads high. Blessings. Pam Potts

Charly, you were one of the good guys at WMEE, I always liked having you you around. We had some really crazy times like when Steve C screwed up the car keys for the mud dive to win a. Honda and WMEE ended up giving away two Honda's instead of one.

August 20, 2018

Doug was a salesman at WMEE and WQHK when Charly came on board in the 80's. Fond memories of those days. WMEE and WQHK were in their best years when Charly and Tony became "Those Two Guys In The Morning".
Sarah, we have not met again after all these years, but wanted you and your family to know that we are mourning your loss too. May strength and great memories help to heal your broken hearts.

I remember being so happy when Chatly was the "new guy" on Fort Wayne's Morning News on WOWO. Finally, in Charly, my first glimpse of the world outside my door each day included the perfect balance of intellect, warmth, graciousness, and quick wit. I will miss his always-excellent interviews. Prayers for all of you who loved him and were loved by him. As you discover the depth and breadth of the legacy he left behind, may you be comforted and find peace.

Charly, I can't believe you are gone, my friend! Charly and I attended Carmel HS together in the mid 70's and worked at WHJE learning how to be broadcasters. We also worked together in radio while attending college at Indiana State in Terre Haute. He later became my roommate when we had an apartment together in Indianapolis while he worked for WNAP and I finished college at I.U. He started dating Sarah and later married her. He was a true friend; a guy that would give you "the shirt off his back." Though we hadn't stayed in touch, we spoke just last year and the years seemed to melt away like nothing. He was so proud of his family and loved Sarah deeply. We shared some laughs, and I never thought that would be the last time we spoke. I miss him. My love to Sarah and his family, and may God bless you in this difficult time!

Just thinking that this is way too soon to say goodbye to Charly. It was a blast listening to him and Tony and then an even bigger one doing some skits on the show with Those Two Guys. They still bring a smile. You'll be sorely missed but, more importantly, you'll be lovingly remembered.

Peace, my friend.

I extend my sympathy and prayers to your whole family on the loss of your husband and Father. I, as many, feel I knew him from hearing him on WOWO. I understand somewhat how you feel as I lost my husband to a massive heart attack on August 11th. Totally unexpected so I know the shock you feel.

Kim and I are Charlies twin sisters. We will never forget one Christmas adventure. Charly worked radio at night in Ohio and drove home to Indiana and stole Christmas. We were 12 or 13 yrs. old. He snuck in the and took all the presents and the tree. He left this little charly brown tree and two candy canes. We had to drive to Ohio to get our Christmas! This is just one fun memory of our big brother. Rest in peace Charly! The baby of the twins!

It was Charly's voice that first made the announcement of my Dad's passing. He was the person who gave me comfort in my darkest moment through his kind words and heartfelt message to the WOWO community. Although I didn't know him well, my Dad loved and respected Charly and spoke so highly of him. My heart goes out to his family, coworkers and friends. I know how much he will be missed. His light will continue to shine through all of us!

Butcher family I am so sorry for your loss. Charly meant so much to so many people. Touched as many lives as I think any one human being can. I listened to him on WMEE on the way to school everyday. Him Tony and my mother showed me music In high school I took radio because I wanted to be a DJ like that crazy funny Charly. Later in life I listened to him on WOWO even on the tough days his humor and wit would bring a smile to my face. Six years ago I started working at Kroger which is where I met him in person. He was so kind and genuinely cared about what people had to say. We had a mutual friend Chris Lucky so we would talk about him and radio since I told him about my taking radio in high school and trade school. He was a great man in person even more so than on radio. He was also a great regular customer which is the highest praise anyone in retail can ever give. RIP Charly thanks for touching my life

It's hard to believe that Charly Butcher died so young, by today's standards. Before WOWO went talk only, Charly was a DJ on WOWO and WMEE. He always played the hits and he was smart, funny and witty. People listened, I think, more for what he would say about the records than the records themselves. Charly also had a great radio voice. Charly is probably cracking jokes in heaven right now with Bob Sievers, Bob Chase, Jack Underwood, and Jay Walker. RIP Charly. "John Edwards, WGL radio, 1979-1994.''

Although I never met Charly, I got to know him through his regular newscasts on WOWO. As a former journalist and a longtime broadcaster myself (still on WBNI), I was quite impressed with his very personable and objective reporting and especially his interviews. He always asking thoughtful and good questions of governors, members of Congress, Indiana legislators, and many local officials and individuals. Dear Sarah and family, please accept my heart felt condolences on the tragic and sudden death of Charly. I grew up listening to Those Two Guys In The Morning every morning on WMEE. His voice was like that of Casey Kasem - it's one that's iconic & immediately recognizable. In all sincerity when I heard about Charly's death I felt the same way when I heard about Mike Frye's Happy the Hobo
death. I felt deeply saddened as if one of my own family members had died. While I did not have the opportunity to meet either one in person both of them have special place in my heart as they were a part of me growing up. Please know that I'm praying for all of you during this difficult time. I truly hope you will experience the Lord's compassionate & consolation in the coming days. Take care & God bless you.

My wife and I met Charlie in 2013 when he was selling the family's 1999 Honda CR-V. We we looking for a vehicle for my wife's mother in Hamilton IN and this fit the bill. We didn't even know who he was when we stopped at the house to look over the car. (at the time we lived in Leo IN) When he handled us the keys to check it out I saw they were on a WOWO keychain. I said ... You said your name was Charlie ... are you Charlie Butcher? YES ! What a wonderful man ... we did buy the car for mom and Charlie made sure it was detailed and looked beautiful when we picked it up. Mom always bragged that she had a celebrity's car .... ! We were honored to get to meet him and are so saddened by his untimely passing. Our prayers are with his family and co-workers.

Sarah and family. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Charly was always a joy to be around during our family get togethers. His quick wit and humor will always be remembered and his obvious love for you all couldn't help but to be noticed by everyone around him. God must have called out for a new morning show, one that only Charly could fulfill.

I am so sorry for your loss. I moved to Churubusco from Cicero Indiana in 2012 and I was looking for a new talk radio to listen to and I found WOWO with Charly Butcher and I was amazed. Charly will be missed by thousands of people. Once again, I am so sorry for your loss. God Bless you and may God be with you in this difficult time.

God wrap his loving arms around all of you! So very sorry for your loss. Sorry also for the loss for Fort Wayne. He had been the voice of the Fort and all of Northeast Indiana! R.I.P.

Dear Butcher family,
I did not personally know Charly but I listened to him many years on WOWO. He was funny and would guess ornery too. I enjoyed listening to his interviews with other personalities and known people in politics, medicine, etc.

I truly am saddened by his passing as so many are especially his WOWO family who cherished him.

One last thing, I baked a Wick's Sugar Cream Pie in his memory today and I will eat some for Charly.

God be with you and bless all of you with peace.

Sincerely, Karen Koontz

I never met you. But you and your voice on the radio got me through so many nail-biting drives into work in the mornings. My sincere sympathy to your family and friends. Rest in Heaven.
