Charles Feller Obituary

CHARLES KRAFT FELLER, 84, passed away April 2, 2005, after an extended illness in Millers Merry Manor in Chesterfield. Born April 6, 1920, in Findley, Ohio, he was the son of Floyd B. and Lillie (Kraft ) Feller. He was a graduate of Findley High School and obtained his undergraduate and Master's Degrees at Bowling Green University in Ohio. He taught school for 40 years, the last 25 at North Side High School in Fort Wayne, where he had resided for 56 years. He was active in church all of his life and taught Sunday School for many years. He was a member of Westridge Baptist Church in Fort Wayne and recently had moved to Daleville with his wife and daughter. He was an avid reader and enjoyed writing, music, theater, photography, bicycling, and camping. He loved art and did a lot of pen and ink drawings. He kept a daily journal most of his life. When he was 72, he wrote an autobiography for his children and niece. He did extensive research over the years and created slide programs to illustrate many lessons for his history classes. He also presented a wonderful slide presentation during the Christmas season. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Laura (Hiestand) of Daleville; two daughters, Janice Heiss (Max) of Daleville and Karen Courtright of Grand Forks, N.D.; one niece, Randie Levisky of Macungie, Pa. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, James Feller. A memorial service will be held in the near future at Westridge Baptist Church in Fort Wayne. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association, Box 40389, Indianapolis, Ind., 46240 or the Westridge Baptist Church, 4710 Illinois Road, Fort Wayne, Ind., 46804. As a friend of Jan's for more than 25 years,I met Mr. & Mrs. Feller many times & grew to know & love them. Mr. Feller was a very charming, intelligent, witty man. Knowing he & Mrs. Feller has enriched my life.

Jan and I were friends in high school; I remember Mr. Feller as a wonderful teacher while I was at NSHS... my condolences to all of the family...

Mr. Feller is a teacher that I think of often - even though it has been over twenty five years since I attended North Side. He made history interesting with many stories. He always ended class with "see you Sunday" even though it was public school. He was a very funny teacher as well.
