DARWIN FREDERICK Obituary

DARWIN R. FREDERICK, 91, of Van Wert, died on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, 3:16 a.m., at Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center. Born June 17, 1921, in Ft. Wayne, he was the son of the late William and Hazel (Grotian) Frederick. On Feb. 21, 1946, he married Kathleen "Kate" (Murfield) Frederick; she survives in Van Wert. Darwin was an Army veteran of World War II in which he served in the 89th Cavalry Recon Squadron from 1943 to 1945. He fought in the 'Battle of the Bulge' and Remagen Bridge. He also saw action in the Ardennes, Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was an officer in the 89th Cavalry Association and a member of American Legion Post 178, in Van Wert. He was the owner of Frederick Dodge from 1964 to 1986. Darwin lived in the Monroeville, Ind. until 1964 when he moved to Van Wert. Also surviving are three children, Richard (Linda) Frederick and Ann (Brennan Profit) Marshall, both of Van Wert, and Joan Frederick of Wasilla, Alaska. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Frederick; and three brothers, Ralph, Howard and Don Frederick. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Brickner Funeral Home, Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the funeral home. Interment will follow service in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. In lieu of flowers and gifts, preferred memorials to Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
