DAVID PIETZ Obituary

DAVID G. PIETZ, M.D., 85, of Bluffton, died on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at home. He was a resident of Bluffton for 55 years. Born Feb. 20, 1925, in Saginaw, Mich., he was the son of the late David H. and Alberta Bolen Pietz. He married Jacquelyn Holmes on April 25, 1964 in Fort Wayne; she survives. He obtained undergraduate and medical degrees from University of Michigan graduating in 1948. After internship and residency in Gastroenterology, he joined Caylor-Nickel Clinic in 1955, retiring in 1991. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1952. He was board certified in Internal Medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. From 1988 to 1990, he served as Governor of the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Gastroenterology. He was Wells County Health Officer from 1968 to 1991. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are his daughters, Barbara (Bill Beery) DeCori of Wilmington, N.C., Nancy (Craig) Urban of Abilene, Texas, Diana (Carl) Busian and Mary (Richard) Kimmel, both of Wilmington, N.C.; sons, David C. Pietz of Bluffton and Greg (Lorie) Pietz of Brownsburg, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Janet. Memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at the Wells County Arts Visitor & Commerce Centre, 211 Water St., Bluffton, with calling from 9 a.m. to noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Family Hospice & Palliative Care, 265 W. Water, Berne, IN 46711, or Unitarian Universalist Congregation of FortWayne, 5310 Old Mill Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46807.
