Doris Mae (McPherson) Yerger, 101, of
Fort Wayne, IN, passed away September 18, 2023, Doris M. Yerger was born August 18, 1922 in
Hope, Arkansas to Rollie McPherson and Mary (Nash) McPherson. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on December 30, 1962.
Doris abided in her faith until the end of her eternal life as a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Confessing her trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and fearing God's holy word. Doris was very active in the Fort Wayne community as a member of many organizations. To name a few: The Urban Guild, The Urban League, Lutheran Women's Organization, The Fort Wayne Women's Bureau, Ultra Art Club, and the Mad Caps. Doris was a serious Advocate of Education and after her medical retirement from General Electric, Doris took the time to pursue her Bachelor's Degree. Not having her high school records, she was admitted as a probationary student at Saint Francis College. Through her determination, in 1980, she was awarded her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work after multiple years of arduous study. Due to her love for children, she brought into our home Jackie (Richardson) Howell for a few years and because of a court decision she was awarded custody of Sarah who she nurtured through all her formative years and Sarah's graduation from high school.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Yerger. Her brothers Chester, George, Lawrence, Oscar, Wilton, and Fred Nash. Her sisters Jean, Altha, Catherine, and Alma.
She is survived by her son, Jimmie Yerger. Her daughter, Sharayn Yerger. Her brother, J.T .McPherson. Her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. And her best friend of 77 years Catherine Hayden.
Funeral service at Zion Lutheran Church, 2313 Hanna St., Saturday, October 14th at 11:00am, with a visitation from 10:00-11:00am and Friday, October 13th from 5:00-7:00pm. Interment to follow at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery.
