DOROTHY GROMEAUX Obituary

DOROTHY ALICE (MURPHY) GROMEAUX, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Adams Heritage Home, Monroe ville. Born March 29, 1924, in Mercer, Ohio, she was the daughter of Martin and Alice (Hendricks) Murphy of New Corydon, Ind. She married Carl A. Gromeaux on Sept. 22, 1945, at St. Mary's Catholic Church near Geneva, and raised her family in Monroeville until moving to a rural area south of Fort Wayne in 1969. In 1995, Carl and Dorothy moved to Decatur where they lived to celebrate together their 67 years of marriage. She enjoyed her last few years of life with the residents and staff at Adams - Heritage Nursing Home, Monroeville. Dorothy was a long-standing member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville. She retired from Royalace Paper Factory, Fort Wayne, in 1971. Her favorite leisure activity was sewing - making clothes for family and she particularly enjoyed making elaborate Barbie and baby doll outfits. Dorothy made sure that the little girls in her life always had well-dressed dolls. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Patricia (Ron) Tricarico of Beavercreek, Ohio; two daughters, Sheila Harrington of Hoagland and Andrea (Dale) Gromeaux-Schnaith of Indianapolis; several very special nieces and nephews; three grandchildren, Ryann Harrington of Fort Wayne, Tarah (Jeremy) Altevogt of Surprise, Ariz., and Brett (Kim) Harrington of Auburn; and eight great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Grace, and Charlotte Harrington, Blake and Aiden Altevogt, and Hannah, Whitney and Paislee Mae Harrington. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant daughter; two sisters, Virginia Homan of St. Anthony, Ohio, and Mildred Minnich of Port Huron, Mich.; and son-in-law, Jim Harrington, in 2016. A prayer service is 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, in Monroeville. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at St. Rose Catholic Church, with Father Lourdino Fernandes officiating. Friends and family will be received from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, with the Holy Rosary recited at 4 p.m. Burial will follow Mass at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, Monroeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Family Life Care, Berne, Ind., c/o the funeral home.

Dear Sheila, I was so sorry to hear about your Mom. I remember meeting her one time at their house near Monroeville. Just wasted you to know that my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family

May you be at peace and rest with Carl in Gods heavenly kingdom. You and Carl were my 2nd parents, giving me a home when I needed a place to stay while finishing high school. I will never forget how good you were to me. My family will miss you dearly.
