Elsa Adler Obituary

ELSA ADLER, 92, of Margate, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003. She is survived by her two sons, Irving Adler of Fort Wayne, and Ronald Adler of Larchmont, N.Y., four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her generation of family members who came to America to escape the Nazi tyranny. Elsa Adler was born on Sept. 12, 1911, in Vienna, Austria, where she lived until October 1938, when she fled to England to escape the Nazi occupation of Austria, which resulted in the death of her mother and many other family members. In 1940, she came to America. Shortly thereafter, she met and married Joseph Adler, who also had fled Vienna. They were married for 54 years. While living in Manhattan and in Far Rockaway, N.Y. from 1940 through 1974, she raised her family, took care of various family members who were fortunate enough to escape from Europe and also worked full-time as a dressmaker at Howard Clothes, at Mary Nagourney's Dress Shop in Cedarhurst and at home in Far Rockaway. In 1974, she and her husband retired and moved to Florida, where she remained until her death. Elsa Adler will be remembered as an exceptionally good and caring person who had a strong sense of devotion to her family and a very positive outlook on life. Funeral services were held at the Star of David Funeral Chapel on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003. She was buried at the Star of David Cemetery next to her husband, who preceded her in death in 1996.
