Eric and I were contemporaries. We both started television talk shows on Public Access television back in the eighties. Some years later Eric told me that the best advice I ever gave him was to start his on television show. He did that and produced volumes of television, video, and written history for us to study. In some of our discussions he would question why some people just didn't get it, and weren't interested in history. I tried to encourage him to just keep the faith. More people than he ever knew have been and will be benefactors of his labor. To the family, I hope that you will find some peace in knowing that Eric mattered. And to matter is the purpose of life.

Dear Linda and family

Heartfelt expressions of sympathy and prayers of comfort are extended to you. Eric was a very rare soul. He saw value and purpose in each and every person. He recorded and maintained historical records of those that others did not notice.

He researched his family history and I never tired of hearing the amazing stories of his lineage and travels to learn, enlighten, and maintain history. He told me the story of Hackley Street in Muncie.

I was honored to serve as videographer for some of his interviews. I marveled at the old newspaper articles and pictures of Fort Wayne leaders in his collection.

Gone far too soon, his legacy will extend to eternity.

As a candidate for Ft Wayne City Council At Large in 2015, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mr. Hackley for the first time. He interviewed me, as he did other candidates, and I participated in his Candidate forum. I always joked with him that we were going to have to pitch in and buy him a new American Flag sweater! He loved our community; he served it with distinction and fervor to keep our history as a guiding light to a better future for all.

I found him to be a library of knowledge, a valued historian and a very good man who loved his family above all.

I send my deepest condolences to his family along with my prayers for comfort during this difficult time. He struggles no more.

Fly High, Eric. God Speed.
