Esther Koehlinger Obituary

ESTHER T. NESSEL KOEHLINGER, 94, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born Dec. 18, 1910, in Dekalb County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Dapp) May. She was a 1932 graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and started a nursing school in Dekalb County. She was a Registered Nurse. She retied from Fort Wayne Community Schools as Supervisor of health Services after 10 years of service, in 1976. Surviving are one son, Michael Nessel of Fort Wayne; three brothers, Ed May of Auburn, Norbert May and Otto May, both of Waterloo; one sister, Veronica Schlosser of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Mark Sherbondy of Fort Wayne, Craig and Brent Sherbondy, both of Rome City; three great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard "Jerry" Koehlinger, in 1983; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Sherbondy; one brother, Albert May; and one sister, Agnus Hollis. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday at Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo, with calling two hours prior. Father Dave Carkenord officiating. Burial in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Waterloo. Memorials to American Cancer Society or Mass at the church.

We met our wonderful cousin only in recent years but we grew to love her deeply. She was a wealth of family history of which we had been unaware. We shall miss her liveliness and her wit.

Aunt Esther was such a unique person and one who made you feel blessed that she was in your life! As my little ones say, she is having a party in heaven with Bettiann! She is trully an angel now! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all!! She will remain in our hearts and beautiful memories forever!!
