Gene Snyder Obituary

Gene E. Snyder, 88, of Columbia City, IN, passed away on June 23, 2025, at Oak Pointe at 7 am. He had been a resident there for a week. Born November 21, 1936 in Peru, Indiana, he was a graduate of Bunker Hill High School and Manchester College, and he earned two masters' degrees from St. Francis College and Butler University. He was a teacher and principal, last working for Central Noble Schools. On August 24, 1963, he married Ellen Rose Yager. She survives. He was a member of Blue River Covenant Brethren Church. His roots in agriculture were important to him, and he enjoyed old tractors, car shows, and going to his boyhood farm. He also greatly enjoyed his daughter's many stage performances and was always at the finish line when his grandchildren finished running a race. He treasured any time he spent with them.

Besides his devoted wife, survivors include his beloved daughter Amy J, and wonderful son-in-law Chad Jagger of Columbia City, as well as his grandchildren he adored, Alissa Rose of Columbia, South Carolina and Cameron Richard of Columbia City. Also, a niece, Debbie (Bob) of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Gayle Snyder, his sister, Janice, and his two brothers and good friends, John and Cliff. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the medical professionals at Parkview Whitley Hospital and Parkview Hospice. The family is also grateful to Autumn Trace, where Gene and Ellen lived for two years, and to the incredibly compassionate employees of Oak Pointe. Amy J. says, "You have all been the hands and feet of God and we are so blessed by your care and service. Thank you - to God be the glory!" Smith and Sons Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Per Ellen's wishes there will be a private family graveside service. Memorials may be given to Blue River Covenant Brethren Church or The Harold Company Performers.
