JAMES ARGAST Obituary

JAMES "JIM" ARGAST, 92, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014. He was born and raised along the New Jersey Shore. One of his first jobs was as a worker in a fish market, and he often told stories of his experiences. Jim had a nimble mind and liked the word jumble, food, burnt toast, coffee, a good story, music and old westerns. He tolerated the Cubs as best as any fan could. Traveling was second nature to Jim, visiting his 50th state, Alaska, at the age of 87. Visits to family and vacations near Bancroft, Ontario were traditions he kept until the last few years prior to his death. He was a skilled woodworker and handy with tools of all kinds. "He loved his family and his family loved him". He served his country in World War II as a tank driver in Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge. After discharge he married Charlotte Terry and worked as a lathe operator in a machine shop. He eventually moved into management as the head of manufacturing department, mostly making parts for the aerospace industry. He retired from Kleiner Metals Specialties, Plainfield, N.J., in 1985, and in 1988 moved to Indiana to be closer to family. He was a member of Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church. Surviving are his son, Anne Scott (Deborah) Argast of Garrett; and grandson, David Argast. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Amelia Bennett Argast; wife, Charlotte Terry Argast; son, Skipper; and siblings, Ray and Sis. Funeral Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church, 12707 Tonkel Road with calling one hour prior. Pastor Fred Baughman officiating. Calling also from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014 at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road. Cemetery Service will be Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 at Fairview Cemetery in Middletown, N. J. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Robinson Chapel Building Fund.
