JOHN DARE Obituary

JOHN C. DARE, 87, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Brook dale Senior Living in Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Walter and Florence (Cartwright) Dare. John served honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Okinawa. He received his Master's in Music Education from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne. John married Carol West on June 17, 1960 and she survives. He taught at St. Joe Center Elementary school and many others, retiring in 1984. John was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Fort Wayne. He loved art, music, humor, poetry, history and philosophy. Surviving are his children, Christa (Felicia) Cartwright. John was also preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn. Funeral service is 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at First Christain Church. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home. Private burial in Lindenwood Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Lambda Legal or the American Civil Liberties Union.

Well, Mr.Dare did a lot for tween music-aspirants. I got a NISBOVA gold medal due to his perseverance and belief in me and my cohort in brass ensemble. A stellar teacher!
