Joyce Gernand Obituary

Joyce Ann (Philebaum) Orr Gernand, 77, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born February 28, 1948, in Portland, IN, she was the daughter of Edward Philebaum and Betty Botts. She graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1966 and married Ed Orr that same year. In 2004, she married Frederick Gernand.

Joyce was a devoted homemaker, active member of The Chapel, and lovingly known as "Grandma Swaggy" to all that knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Fred; sons Jim (Julie Ottinger) Orr of Fort Wayne and Jeff (Cheryl) Orr of Mishawaka; six siblings; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation is Friday, Sept. 19, from 4–7 p.m. at The Chapel, 2505 W. Hamilton Rd. S., Fort Wayne. Funeral service is Saturday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Burial at Covington Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to New Mercies Ministries. Arrangements by McElhaney Funeral Home, Roanoke Chapel.
