Karl Lee Lauer

Karl Lee Lauer, 81, of Fort Collins, CO, passed away peacefully December 10, 2025, Karl was born on October 23, 1944, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Max and Julia Lauer. He graduated from Central High School in 1964 and spent his early years working on his grandpa's farm and bartending before beginning a long career at General Electric in the wire mill.

Karl met the love of his life, Diann Neidert, at Gardner's Drive-In Restaurant. They married a year later and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Together they raised two children, Steve and Sue.

In his younger years, Karl enjoyed playing handball, golfing, and riding his bike just about everywhere. He was also a loyal YMCA member for 40 years. Later in life, he liked watching old westerns and relaxing in his favorite recliner.

Karl was a longtime member of Eagles 3512 and a familiar face at O'Sullivan's, where he formed many lifelong friendships on the barstools. His buddies there affectionately nicknamed him "Mr. Happy," a tongue-in-cheek tribute to his famously gruff charm. He loved picking up Coney Island and Powers to share. Even after moving to Colorado two years ago, he would still often reminisce about both places.

As a loving family man and friend, Karl was an incredibly generous, compassionate, caring, and loyal person. We are proud to remember him as a man who would do anything for those he loved.

Karl is survived by his wife, Diann; his children, Steve (Tanis) and Sue (Jeff) Jiron; his four grandchildren, Lauren, Ashton, Jadyn, and Sydney; and three great-grandchildren, Londyn, Emersyn, and Finley.

He was welcomed on the other side by his parents, his brother Robert Lauer, his grandson Wes Lauer, and many of his closest friends-no doubt a lively crowd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Hospice in gratitude for the compassionate care they provide. The family will hold a private gathering in his memory at a later date.
