Kenneth Kline Obituary

Kenneth Charles "Ken" Kline, of Markle, IN, born on November 30, 1931, in Huntington, Indiana, to John Frederick "Fred" and Hazel Kline, passed away June 7, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. Ken was a devoted husband, father, and a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War.

A graduate of Union Township High School in 1949, Ken excelled in his remarkable career as an operator of heavy equipment, having honed his skills during his time in the United States Army. He was a proud lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 103, where he dedicated his life to his profession with steadfast commitment and excellence. With a firm belief in hard work, he taught his family to approach every task with dedication, reminding them to "never half-ass it." Ken was meticulous and always knew the exact location of each tool he owned, effortlessly engineering clever solutions for any challenges he encountered.

On October 30, 1954, Ken married Fabian Funderburg, with whom he shared a loving partnership until her passing on August 29, 2011. Together, they raised two children, Kenlyn and Kenton, creating a home filled with love, support, and treasured memories. Ken took immense pride in his family and embraced his role as a caring and involved father.

Known for his sharp intellect and insatiable thirst for knowledge, in his earlier years, he could often be found sitting on his front porch, watching the activity across the street or immersing himself in the Journal Gazette, always ready to share the knowledge he gained with others. He faced life's challenges with courage and determination, inspiring those around him with his integrity and genuine passion for learning. Ken also had an unwavering desire to learn about the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always wanting to stay connected with each of them. He had a knack for absorbing information and experiences, like a sponge soaking up everything life had to offer.

Ken particularly cherished the holidays, with Thanksgiving being a favorite. He relished the time spent surrounded by loved ones, engaged in heartfelt conversation, and enjoying a feast that he truly appreciated. His sweet tooth was legendary, often expressing that the cupcakes made by family members were the best he'd ever tasted. He eagerly anticipated fruit of the month deliveries, loving both the treats and the joy of sharing.

Generosity defined Ken's character. There were countless friendly debates over who would pick up the restaurant tab, as he insisted on treating others regardless of the size of the bill. His love for family extended to all occasions, especially during Christmas when he delighted in giving gifts, often in abundance, reminding everyone, "I want to."

As a Great-Great-Grandad, Ken felt a profound sense of accomplishment. He thoughtfully selected a beautiful gold bracelet for his first great-great-grandchild, Ryn, engraving it with the message: "From Great-Great Grandad." Through the stories shared by his family, Ryn will know of his unwavering love.

The loving memory of Kenneth "Ken" Charles Kline will be forever cherished by his children, Kenlyn Kline, North Manchester and Kenton (Cindy) Kline, Markle; grandchildren, Lincoln Bates, Autumn (Andy) Sturtsman, Kylie (David) Rickert-Snyder, Jena (Mark) Patkowski, and Kara (Ryan) Meyer; great-grandchildren, Delaney, Hayes, Harry, Harper, Rylie (Kaylie), McKenna, Teegan, Bella, Max, Mark, Becket, Maddox, and Miles; and one great-great-grandchild, Ryn. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fabian Kline, sisters, Doris Jean Allen and Norma Lou Bosworth; and a special friend, Carolyn Bailey.

In accordance with his wishes, Ken generously donated his body to Indiana University, reflecting his lifelong belief in the importance of education and personal growth. In memory of Ken, friends and loved ones are encouraged to enjoy a cupcake-a simple yet heartfelt tribute to a man who found joy in life's little pleasures.

The family of Ken Kline would like to thank the caregivers at Heritage Point of Huntington and the staff at Fort Wayne Medical Oncology for the care given. A private graveside will be held at a later date.
