Kenneth Paul Ramming M.D.

KENNETH PAUL RAMMING, M.D., passed away quietly Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in Los Angeles. He was born in Fort Wayne, April 17, 1939. Beloved husband of Mary Ann; cherished father of Peter, Paul and James; and grandfather of Kylie Ann. Ken put himself through Valparaiso University, graduating in 1961, and Duke University School of Medicine, graduating in 1965. In 1974, he loaded his young family in an old Cadillac and drove across the country to begin a long, distinguished career as a surgeon at the UCLA Medical Center. As a committed caregiver and a man of science, Ken gave all he had to improve the lives of all that he touched and humanity in general. He helped launch the liver transplant program at UCLA, worked to advance the John Wayne Cancer Institute and made invaluable contributions in cryosurgery while at St. John's Hospital and the cancer center at Century City Hospital. An avid supporter of UCLA football, Ken loved going to the Rose Bowl in one of his vintage cars. "He had a gentle heart, an indomitable spirit and a love for his family that knew no bounds. He will be missed." Memorial service was held 3 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Monica.
